Car Insurance FAQs
What does comprehensive car insurance cover?
Comprehensive car insurance provides full protection for your vehicle, covering risks such as accidents, theft, fire, and natural disasters. It’s designed to cover damage to your car and third-party vehicles or property.
Do I need comprehensive car insurance?
If you seek protection against financial loss due to an accident or theft, assistance in emergencies, safeguarding against inflation, and cover for damages caused by natural and man-made disasters, Comprehensive Car Insurance may be the ideal solution for you.
What is third-party car insurance?
Third-party insurance covers damage or injury you cause to others in an accident. It doesn’t cover damage to your own vehicle but provides essential protection for incidents involving other drivers, pedestrians, or property.
What is an excess?
An excess is the first amount payable in the event of a loss. The excess serves to prevent customers from submitting minor claims as well as fraudulent claims and assists in keeping the premiums down. When you submit a claim, you will have to pay an excess, (this is the portion of the claim which you need to pay) irrelevant of who was to blame for the accident. It is important to read your policy documentation regarding excess as there may sometimes be additional excess depending on the facts of your claim, for example, who was driving your vehicle at the time of the loss, etc.
But if you take out a policy through us, our decreasing excess benefit is applied, reducing your excess every month!
How does your decreasing excess benefit work?
Our decreasing excess feature is unique to Value Insure. With every month you hold your car insurance policy through us, your excess amount reduces. This means that when you need to make a claim, you’ll have lower out-of-pocket expenses over time, maximising your savings.
Does car insurance cover me if my car breaks down?
The short answer is that it depends on the type of insurance you have, but generally, most car insurance policies do not cover you for a break down, even under a comprehensive plan. Insurers typically provide cover for incidents such as roadside assist, hijacking or hail damage, but repairs and replacements for a breakdown is not included under the standard insurance umbrella.
A breakdown is classified as a mechanical failure or wear and tear, which is part of the natural aging process of a vehicle and is usually covered with a Mechanical or Motor Warranty. So, a more precise answer would be that, in most cases, car insurance does not cover a mechanical or electrical breakdown.
If you’re looking for protection against breakdowns, explore our Value-Added Cover comparison options, such as warranties and service plans, to ensure you’re fully covered.
